AOL Problems? Hmmm . . . . ,
When I send an email with attachments to anyone with a user@aol.com address, they can't read the attached files. Why?
AOL's proprietary email system is non-standard. If you MIME attach one file, it is SUPPOSED to work correctly, but with two or more attachments it gets confused. So what it does is save all attached files together in one big file with a .mme extension. According to AOL's tech support, the AOL user must then decode the .mme file with a "MIME decoder" available in AOL's "File Download Area".
How do I set up my AOL software to use tri.net as my service provider?
- Once you've signed up for tri.net service, use the tri.net dialer to connect to the Internet.
- Launch your America Online software (AOL version 3.0 required)
- On the Sign On screen, click Setup.
- Click Edit Location.
- In the Network list box, click TCP/IP.
- Click Save on the Sign On screen.
- Go to America Online's Member Services section of the AOL 3.0 browser to change your account to the bring-your-own-access plan after registering with tri.net. This can be done by:
- Clicking on the Members toolbar header at the top of the AOL 3.0 browser and selecting Member Services;
- Next click on Accounts and Billing;
- Choose Modify Billing or Pricing;
- Enter your AOL password;
- On the Update Pricing Plan page select the $9.95 B.Y.O.A. plan (the change will affect the next month's billing period).
- Go back to the Sign On screen, enter your AOL password and select Sign On.
- Kick back and enjoy not having to wait any longer.
Once you have changed the AOL setup the first time, you are set for smooth tri.net Internet connection every time. You need only to use the tri.net dialer to connect to the Internet, launch your AOL browser, and sign on to America Online using your AOL account password. Your computer will remember the TCP/IP change to the AOL setup you made earlier. While tri.net provides technical support for technical issues related the Internet connections it provides, we don't provide any support for any America Online service or content issues. Any such calls regarding AOL should be addressed directly to America Online.
