PPP setup for Win95
- Make sure Dial-Up Networking is installed! Check in Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add-Remove Programs>Windows Setup.
- If it is installed, go to Start>Control Panel>Network and select TCP/IP and click on
Properties. Under the IP Address tab, select
Obtain IP address Automatically. Under the DNS Configuration tab, select
Disable DNS.
- If it is not installed, go to Setting Network Properties and install it.
- Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Dial Up Networking and select Make A New Connection.
- Select the Configure button.
- Under the General tab, and set the appropriate Maximum Speed for your Com port.
(Use 38,400 for a 14.4 connection and 115,200 for a 28.8).
- Under the Connection tab, set the Connection Preferences to 8,None,1 . Under Port Settings, the 16550 should be enabled.
- Under Advanced, check Use Error Control and Compress Data.
Also check Use flow control and Hardware.
- Under the Options tab, select Open Terminal Window After Dialing
and Display Modem Status.
- Hit OK and Next.
- Enter the telephone number, 826-1520 and hit Next.
- Give the connection a name (Tri-Rivers perhaps?) and hit Finish.
Your connection will appear as an icon in the Dial Up Networking box.
- Click on it with your right mouse button.
- Select Properties from the pop-up.
- Select Server Type
- Make sure that PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet is the
selected Dial Up Server. Under Advanced Options, check only the Enable Software Compression box.
Under Allowed Network Protocols, uncheck all but TCP/IP.
- Select TCP/IP Settings.
- Insure that Server Assigned IP Address is selected. Select
Specify Name Server Address and enter 205.153.244.1 as Primary
DNS.
Make sure to Use IP Header Compression and
select Use Default
Gateway on Remote Network.
- Hit the OK button three times, which brings you back to the Dial Up Networking window.
- Double-click on your new connection icon and enter the correct UserName
and Password.
- Check Save Password if you don't want to enter it every time.
